A national accelerator that had to produce deals, not certificates
MoDEE and the YTJ Project commissioned a 12-week accelerator for Jordanian founders. The measure was never graduation. It was whether the cohort left with money, customers and markets.
- 15
- startups graduated
- $841K
- raised by the cohort
- 16
- deals closed, investment and grants
- 80
- partnership MOUs signed
- 9
- new markets entered
The brief
Jordan has founders and a government willing to fund their growth. What it did not have was a repeatable path from a working product to a paying customer outside the country. MoDEE wanted a program whose results could be reported to the ministry and to the World Bank-backed YTJ Project in numbers, not narrative.
What we ran
- 01
Selected for traction, not for potential
Entry required a product and, ideally, paying customers. Founders with a deck and an idea were turned away, because a 12-week program cannot manufacture demand that does not exist yet.
- 02
Sales before storytelling
The curriculum led with sales strategy and customer acquisition. Investor training came after, once a founder had something an investor would underwrite.
- 03
Introductions run as a pipeline
81 introductions to partners and investors were made and tracked, rather than left as a networking list. That is where the 16 deals and 80 MOUs came from.
- 04
A demo day with buyers in the room
The inaugural cohort's demo day brought investors, corporate innovators and ecosystem leaders together in Amman, so the cohort's last week was a market test rather than a graduation ceremony.
What came out
- 01
The 15 graduates raised $841K across 16 investment and grant deals.
- 02
CareVision, a health technology company applying AI to contactless screening, went from a $2M to a $10M valuation and opened a $1M seed round.
- 03
80 partnership MOUs were signed and nine startups entered a new market.
A ministry can report 15 graduates, or it can report $841K raised, 16 deals, 80 MOUs and nine market entries. The second one survives a budget review.
